Scholarships and Awards

Holcam Associates, Inc. College Scholarship Awards

The Annual Holcam Associates, Inc. College Scholarship Awards provides college scholarships to three deserving members. A $1,000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships are awarded each year.

The criteria for selection include demonstrated service to the community, academic achievement, financial need, college aspirations, and being a member in good standing for a minimum of three years.

Applicants prepare and submit an essay describing their college aspirations and how they meet the selection criteria noted above. A selection committee chooses the awardees from the submitted applications.

The Leo Summa Sportsmanship Award

To honor the memory of his father, Michael Summa sponsors the annual Leo Summa Sportsmanship Award to recognize members that personify the attributes of sportsmanship his father honored throughout his life. Leo Summa was known to most as “Leo, the Golfer.” Born in 1914, and a resident of New Rochelle, Leo attended Columbus School. He married Carmela Pace in 1942. He was the proud father of Leonard and Michael and a grandfather to five. He was an avid golfer his entire life. As a youth, he was the Wykagyl Country Club Caddy Champion in 1930, 1931 and 1932. Later in life he was the 1976 New Rochelle City Senior Golf Champion. Leo Summa passed away in 1999, but his memory lives on.

The criteria for selection include demonstrated commitment to the Club, active participation in at least one of the Club’s team activities, leadership in supporting fellow team members and their success, positive influence at the Club and in the community and being a member in good standing for at least three years

Any Club member, volunteer or staff can nominate an individual by providing a brief description of how their nominee personifies the sportsmanship attributes delineated above. Nominations are reviewed by a selection committee. Four members are chosen to be the recipient of The Leo Sportsmanship award each year. Recipients, in addition to the recognition of their sportsmanship qualities, will receive a $100 Savings Bond and a trophy.
