In 1929, the stock market crashed, the depression was beginning, and many families fell on hard times. Those most affected were the children of these families. With that the community decided to build the Boys' Club. In 1972, through a matching grant from the Charles Hayden Foundation and a response from the City of New Rochelle, The Women’s Auxiliary and other community members made possible the addition of a gymnasium, game room, shower and locker room, and office to the existing building. Over the years, thousands of kids from all races and creeds have come through the Boys & Girls Club programs and moved on to become responsible, successful adults and community minded citizens. The longevity of the Club is the result of hard work and dedication by our Board of Directors, and adult associations. The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle serves approximately 1,200 members a year.

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

A Boys & Girls Club Provides: A safe place to learn and grow. Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals. Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences...Hope and opportunity. Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates all programs and activities in the Core Program areas including education, athletics, arts & crafts, technology and games room. Develop and foster healthy relationships, with all members, at the assigned shared space.

Key Roles:

  • Ensure programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of the members and quality programs at all times.
  • Planning, organizing and implementing a range of noncompetitive programs and activities formembers and visitors daily.
  • Initiating new and creative program activities. Promoting and stimulating program participation.
  • Identifying opportunities for implementing new programs to benefit club members.
  • The monitoring and evaluation of program achievement with target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment while supervising members.
  • Manage facilities and ensure a productive environment, maintaining an inventory of all program equipment and supplies in good order.
  • Engage parents regarding opportunities and expectations of club members, as well as general club participation.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Work with staff on special events and facilitate programs in any department when needed.
  2. Complete any required or mandated training and/or professional development

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.

Maintain contact as needed with eternal community groups, schools, member’s parents and other to assist in resolving problems.

Skills / Knowledge Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years ‘experience working with youth and families required.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in working with youth required.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written required. Bi-lingual, English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) required.
  • Must be able to interpret Boys & Girls Clubs of New Rochelle programs.
  • Valid New York driver’s license preferred (may be required at some Club locations).
  • Must adhere to the BGCNR Employee Code of Conduct
