We are seeking to form 20 mentor/mentee relationships. 

Requirements for mentees:Youth in Middle school or freshman in High school. Youth wanting to improve themselves (a skill, sport, academically or personally) and open to creating a caring relationship with an adult. 

Requirements for mentors: 18 and older. Any college or professional experience. A genuine desire to be involved and help youth. The ability to listen and offer friendship, guidance and encouragement; the abilities to see solutions and opportunities and help youth see them. ALL MENTORS ARE SUBJECTED TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK.

Initial steps to become a mentor/ mentee:       

  1. Fill out application and submit. 

*Mentee must also submit a Parent/Guardian consent form.

    1. Rolling application; applications are accepted throughout the year and kept until match is made.
    2. Phone or in-person interviews for potential mentees and mentors.
    3. If accepted an interview will be scheduled. Interviews for mentee w/ parent: Child and parent are interviewed by the program coordinator. 


  • What is mentoring? Mentors are caring individuals who, along with parents or guardians, provide young people with emotional support, counsel, friendship, reinforcement and a constructive example in a structured and trusting relationship.

The model we use; one-to-one mentoring places one adult in a relationship with one youth.

  • How long do mentor-mentee relationships typically last?

Because relationships and a sense of bonding occur over time between mentors and mentees, the durationand consistencyof each mentoring relationship is very important. One year commitment is required from both parties from July 2018 – July 2019.

  • How often mentees and mentors meet?

To help foster a successful mentoring relationship, the mentor and mentee should meet very regularly, especially at the beginning of the program, and continue for the duration of a year. 

Mentor-mentee meetings are 1 hour to 1 ½ hour, twice a week. (5:30 – 6:30 pm, weekdays)

Mentors must visit mentee during club program hours, once to twice a month.

Mentor training and group meetings are held once to twice a month. These meetings will replace a mentor-mentee meeting.

  • How are matches made?

Interest based. Applications are reviewed thoroughly. Phone and/or in person interviews take place, before presenting a possible match.

A “speed-dating” type of event may occur, where possible mentors and mentees meet in a large group setting to get know various participants and pick a possible match.

  • What kind of things mentors and mentees do together?

Meetings begin in a group setting. Mentor and mentee mingle until all matches are present. Activities vary from free-play to planned activities. Activities:include homework tutoring, project-based activities, goal setting and reviewing, challenges and games.  

One-on-one break out activities: Mentors and mentees will be free to use the building and have one-on-one time to engage in activities they share interest in. Rooms available for use are, the gym, game room, teen room, computer lab, and art room. 

Mentors are required to meet with their mentee during club hours, and join in club activities. This will help the mentor get a better sense of the mentee’s daily environment and interactions with others.
